How can I power a car stereo inside my house?
The head unit is fairly easy to power in a home, I've even done so using an old power transformer from a pair of computer speakers (you know those big FAT plugs on the end of certain devices? Just find one rated for 12 volts, and 1000mA or more). The head unit has a fairly low power draw, and if you can keep the volume at a moderate level, can use less than one amp of current.

An amplifier is going to be a bigger problem though. Something like the DC power supply the other poster mentioned, is kinda on the right track, except that car amplifiers draw way more current than you're going to be able to provide with a regular power supply. Even a modest size car amp is going to draw 40 to 50 amps of current.... and that power supply linked to above only provides 4.... for $40. A power supply beefy enough to provide the current a car amp needs, would easily cost you more than a new home theater system.

So.... if you want to hook up your head unit and test it, you can do that.... but if you want to save a few bucks by repurposing an old car amp, it's not feasible.
Get a regulated power inverter that can provide 3-5 amps of power. How can I power a car stereo inside my house?
power inverter look up the specs of the amp. try to find an inverter that matches the specs.
