Why I am not getting good sound from my car stereo?

I have a brand new pioneer car stereo with two speakers on the rear channels connected. Now, when I set the balance all to the left or all to the right, the sound from the single speaker comes out great but when I set the balance to equal, the sound comes out very poor. Could be some settings or something wrong with the head unit or speakers? Any help? Why I am not getting good sound from my car stereo?
What you're describing is the classic test to tell whether your speakers are wired in phase.

The problem is that one of the two speakers has the (+) and (-) terminals reversed. The two speakers' outputs are 180 degrees out of phase with each other. When you're just playing one speaker, it's not a problem; but when both are playing, it causes massive cancellation over a wide range of frequencies--especially in the lower mid-range and bass frequencies.

Simply reverse the (+) and (-) connections on ONE of the two speakers. You'll hear the difference instantly. Why I am not getting good sound from my car stereo?
Crossed wires or stuffed head unit
