Car stereo?

I have an 86 Cadillac Cimarron. I'm a college student, so I'm stuck with it. Needless to say, it doesn't have a CD player.

My brother had one that he bought installed in his old car. I was about 10 at the time and the car is long gone, so I'm not sure what to look for.

It had a button on it that made the front part pop off of the car and he bought it at an electronics store.

I'm not too sure what to look for... it's been a long time since I've seen something like it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.Car stereo?
i'm not sure if the old caddy has a double-din or not, so like the other guy said, go to crutchfield.com and they will tell you what fits in your car

i wouldn't however suggest buying from them, as they sell most of their products at MSRP (retail cost) and they can be had for much cheaper elsewhere.

there are solid cd players out there for 100-150, or like someone else mentioned, hit up a pawn shop, just ask them to hook it up first to make sure it all works the way it should.
Go to www.crutchfield.com you can put in information about your car and it will tell you what will fit, or what you can do to make something fit. Also almost every CD player that you can buy now, has a removable face plate, so you don't have to worry wether the front comes off of the one you want or not.Car stereo?
If its that old forget it-go to a local pawn shop, flea market or thrift store and you should find one real cheap. You will also need a installation kit that fills in the gaps and mounts the new unit properly.Good luck Countess!
I would go to a shop where they install it for you so you don't have to worry about doing it properly. I got my (Alpine) at a place called Myer-Emco (don't know if there is one near you) but I know they can install at Circuit City and Best Buy, etc. That said, I agree with the first poster about crutchfield.com, the folks there are very knowledgeable and I would find out what kind of things you are looking for in a CD player before you go to a place where the sales people might try to sell you something you can't afford. You should be able to get a decent CD player for around $200.Car stereo?
try pioneer or clarion cd players
